Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height consisting of a vertical black enamel cannon, muzzle pointed up, between two brown enamel bears facing outward, all standing upon two green laurel branches bound at center with gold ties, the bears holding upright at left a black powder ladle and at right a black rammer, the cannon issuing from its muzzle scarlet flames terminating below center of a scarlet scroll arched at top and draped at either side to just below the end laurel leaf, the arched section bearing the motto "VICTORY WITH FIREPOWER" in gold letters.

Symbolism
Scarlet and yellow (gold) are the colors used for Artillery. The grizzly bears, adapted from the Seal of the State of Missouri, refer to the unit's home area and the cannon represents the basic mission of artillery. The laurel branches in base, together with the cannon spewing flames and the alert and ready bears holding the gunner's implements, are symbolic of the words of the unit motto, "VICTORY WITH FIREPOWER."

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 135th Artillery Group on 31 Aug 1971. It was redesignated for the 135th Field Artillery Group on 15 Jun 1972. It was amended to changed description temporarily (until 1 Jan 1973) in order to permit wearing of items manufactured from incorrect tools. On 14 Dec 1978 the insignia was redesignated for the 135th Field Artillery Brigade.
